Recently, Murwillumbah Public School opened its doors to celebrate Grandparents Day. The school values grandparents. not only as an integral part of family life, but as valuable members of the school community. MPS wanted to show their gratitude by making a special school day dedicated to them.
The morning began with a whole school assembly, where quality work was showcased by students in years 2 and 3. Students presented writing and artwork they had produced in class. The hall was full of grandparents and parents who were impressed by the standard of work displayed.
The visitors were then invited into the classroom to see where the learning takes place. Children read stories to their grandparents that they had written about the special relationships they share with their nanas and pops. This writing was part of the literacy program each class follows every day. IT was heart warming to hear how important and valued the extended family is to our students.
The special day was completed with a superb morning tea where the guests of honour enjoyed a sumptuous feast of delicacies made by the teachers.
